Maputo Journal began as a notebook and a half-used roll of Portra. The idea was simple: spend a week in one place, walk everywhere, eat where the queue is longest, and write it down the same night while the details are still loud.

No sponsored hotels, no affiliate links, no ranked lists of ten things. Each issue is a set of dated entries, a handful of photographs, and prices in meticais so you can plan honestly. If a place was disappointing, that is in there too.

The journal is written by Winile, a photographer based between Johannesburg and Maputo. Corrections and additions from readers who live in these cities are always welcome — the contact page goes straight to an inbox that is actually read.
